Description: Aircraft Radio Receiving Equipment ABK-2 is part of the Mark III IFF System, and are primarily intended for use in aircraft as a means of establishing identity. It is a combination receiver and transmitter-coder which respond with the appropriate coded signal when excited by the signal from an interrogator. The receiver scans through the range once every 2-1/2 seconds, receiving any signals from mark III IFF interrogator-responsor and replies with a series of coded pulses. 6 codes consisting of narrow (5-9 microsec) and wide (13-25 microsec) are transmitted based on the settings of the control box. A very wide (50-100 microsec) pulse is sent when the emergency switch is operated. A distructive charge which may be set off by the pilot or by an inertia switch on crash landing is included.
