Recovered Intel ISIS-II Floppy Disk Images
These archives contain disk images for various versions of ISIS-II released by Intel for the
various MDS platforms. The 7Z file contains a text file with the complete disk label(s). It
containes a 7Z archive with the extracted files found on the disk image. It also contains the IMG
file of the disk, and, if available, the IMD or DMK image of the disk. The DMK and/or IMD
contain images which contain disk format information that can be used to create a exact copy
of the original imaged disk. The IMG image is a RAW image which only contains the original
disk contents in a linear format suitable for Simulators.
This is a growing collection of software which will run on the MDS-800 (MDS-I), MDS-II, MDS-III,
and MDS-IV. The real problem is getting the disk images contained here onto media suitable for
use on one of these hardware systems. These systems all use an early double-density disk format
know as MMFM. It is not compatible with the MFM that replaced it as the standard double-density
format. Currently, our solutions were to get a copy of a bootable disk from someone else with
KERMIT on it and use KERMIT in a terminal emulator, like Tera Term to move files between the
PC and the host system. Not a real good solution.
I and others are working to get Monitors smart enough to handle disk formatting, reading, and
writting between the PC and the host system. Work continues.
This is only the beginning of this work. We have images of hundreds of disks to process and
place up on this site as well as BITSAVERS.ORG, and others. It is labor intensive and will
take time to add code to the archive.
